Thirty-One Raffle and Fall Carnival King & Queen!

The PTC is in the process of putting together a Thirty-One raffle for our Fall Carnival.  We have purchased the bags, and are asking that each grade level come up with a theme and ask parents to donate items to fill one of the bags according to that theme.  The teachers are busy deciding themes, and you should be getting a letter home soon.  I will post each grade’s theme on this site as well, just in case.  This raffle will also be our way of deciding this year’s Carnival King and Queen.  You will also be receiving a letter home asking if you want your child to sell raffle tickets, and how many booklets you want.  Simply sell the tickets until October 25, and make sure to send all the money and stubs back into your child’s teacher.  The boy and girl that sell the most raffle tickets will be named King/Queen.  Raffle tickets are $1.00 each, you must be present the night of the carnival to win, and tickets will also be sold the night of the carnival, they just will not be attributed to any certain student.  If you have any questions, let me know!

Fall Box Tops Contest!

Central PTC will be holding a Fall Box Tops contest October 14 – 25!!  As you know, Box Tops are a critical part of PTC fundraising – helping to pay for Field Trips (we cover the $1,000 transportation cost to the Jackson movies) and fun Family Activity Nights!

Please send all Box Tops in a Ziploc bag with the Student and Teacher name clearly marked.  Also, remember: EXPIRED BOX TOPS will NOT count towards your student’s totals – neither will any Box Tops sent in after October 25.

The classroom that brings in the most Box Tops will receive fun treat bags to take home, and the teacher will receive a $25.00 Wal-Mart card!  And the top THREE selling students (either from the winning classroom or not) will receive 15 free Fall Carnival tickets!

Fall Book Fair

Our PTC Fall Book Fair will be open next week, Monday, September 30 – Friday, October 4.
Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills children learn, it is the one you can influence the most.

We invite your child to visit our Scholastic Book Fair and experience a celebration of reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission:encouraging kids to read every day so they can lead better lives.

 Reading is vital to every child’s success, and raising kids as readers means getting involved while they’re young. Now is the time.

 You will be receiving a letter from your child’s teacher outlining the days and times their class will be visiting the book fair.  Additionally, Scholastic has provided us with an online book fair this year.  So, if you would like your child to simply create a wish list when they go with their class, then shop online at home, that is an option you have this year.  Also, the online site will list class visiting times, in case you misplace the teacher letter.

Back-to-School 1

Welcome back to another great school year at Central Elementary! The PTC is excited to continue some prorams from last year, and add in some new ideas to the mix.  Please plan on attending our meetings, as we need and appreciate all the help we can get!

Volunteer Help Wanted

First off, we were very sad to lose our Treasurer/Book Fair Coordinator/Box Tops Coordinator, Brandy Arthur to the middle school this year – Brandy was awesome at keeping our receipts in check and counting ALL those Box Tops – I will miss her help dearly.  So, we are down to just 2 officers this year – myself and Shonda Walker.  This is a big job for just 2 of us, folks.  We were barely managing last year with 3 of us.  I know taking on an officer position can be intimidating, and worrisome about the amount of time it can take, but we try very hard to be appreciative of everyone’s busy schedule and time. We meet just once a month, and do much of our planning over email.  If you have any desire to fill a position (and we are splitting Brandy’s old job up – so signing up for Treasurer doesn’t mean you are automatically saddled with Book Fair and Box Tops), please join us at our first meeting, right after Market Day pick up on Sept. 18 about 5:30-6:30p.  Even if you would be willing to attend meetings and count Box Tops, that would be a help as well. Our kids deserve fun, well-planned events to show them school is an integral part of family and community, and we need your help!

On that note as well – we will be hosting a Student-of-the-Month reception at each of our meetings.  Students chosen for student-of-the-month for that month can attend our meeting with their parent(s) and are welcome to refreshments, and can collect their certificates.  Also, we will be having monthly grade-level competitions for the class that has the highest number of parent attendees at our meeting.  The winning class will get a special treat after lunch the following Friday!

Market Day is back in full swing.  Online ordering is open now, and this is a great month to participate!  There are awesome free items this month, so make sure you get your order in today!  Remember, this is similar to Schwann’s frozen food – order online, or fill out the order form that comes home in your student’s backpack; the food is delivered to the school, and we get up to 20% of the order total!  We have had great success with this fundraiser the past 2 years, and I hope we can grow it this year.  September orders need to be in by the 13th at 11pm; pick-up is Sept. 18th, 4-5pm.

Remember: you can pay online with credit or debit, or pay day of sale with check, cash or Ohio Direction Card!!  This will be especially useful now that we are losing our only grocery store in the county – supplement with Market Day!

Shoparoo

We are continuing the Shoparoo fundraiser this year as well – this is a simple, free way to support Central.  Simply download the Shoparoo app to your smart phone, and snap a picture of your grocery receipt.  It’s that easy.  There’s nothing additional to buy, or anything to clip or turn in.  Simply shop where you normally shop, and take a pic of your receipt.  This year, we are discussing some prizes for our top 3 Shoparoo users – so better to start early!

We are also using Volunteer Spot again this year.  This is a fast and easy way to see exactly the open opportunities we have, and how you can help.  Be on the lookout in your email for links to sign up.  You can also download the Volunteer Spot app for your iPhone or Android phone, making sign-ups even easier.  We will also again have a volunteer-only raffle at the Spring Family Night – each hour you volunteer gives you one ticket for the raffle.  We’ve had some great prizes in the past: Reds tickets, Kings Island tickets, movie passes, and more!  The more you help out, the greater the chance your ticket will win!
